Dignity Therapy
Dignity Therapy?
Dignity Therapy is an end-of-life psychotherapeutic intervention that is an important component of grieving and recovery. When families avail themselves of hospice services, they most often need the care and counseling that compliments other end-of-life services.
My training…
This type of therapy is something that very few people have training in, particularly in the States. It has an amazing track record in other countries and its efficacy is well-researched and documented.
I traveled to Winnipeg to train with Dr. Harvey Chochinov who developed Dignity Therapy and led our workshops and classes. I was not only fascinated and enriched by what I learned, but knew that it was something I wanted to incorporate into my own end-of-life care and services..
Legacy Document
Creating a Legacy document is an exercise best-suited for those people at an end-of-life stage where there is little-to-no intellectual or memory impairment. Those who may already be showing signs of notable dementia or who are receiving medications in doses large enough to affect cognition may have a difficult time with this. It is an extremely worthwhile document to have for the family and if a person is ready, willing and able, so am I. I have seen the results of creating a legacy document and know its value.
